“Getting the most out of your radial saw” is published as a service to power tool users. Different sizes, models and makes of machines vary in their performance, features and ease of operation. The author and editor have endeared to make the information contained in this manual as general as possible.

The radial saw is one of the most basic and useful tools to be found in the home workshop. It is also one of the safest. BUT, as with any power tool, certain safety precautions must be followed. These procedures are included throughout the book and are detailed in chapter 2. For clarity, guards and other safety devices have been removed from illustrations depicting procedures described by the text. To avoid injury the operator should insure that the guards and other safety devices are in place and properly operating before using the saw.

Radial saws are available in several sizes and two basic designs. When selecting machine, make sure it will meet your requirements. If you intend use your radial saw for long, sustained periods of time, you should consider buying a unit with a greater capacity and heavier duty construction. Also, be certain that the machine you select can be adapted for all of the operations you will perform.

This book was designed to accommodate both the beginner, wanting to learn the basics operations of the radial arm saw, and the skilled artisan needing information about complex area of sawing or one of the other applications of this valuable tool. The book covers basic sawing techniques, working with a dado head, moulding operations, sanding, boring, routing, buffing and polishing.

To avoid injury the operator should insure that the guards and other safety devices are in place and properly operating before using the saw. You should also be attentive to future improvements and new development techniques for guards and other devices which will enhance the safe operation of the saw

Originally published in 1969, this handbook has been reprinted several time, and evolved into both a compendium and final word about radial saws.This most recent edition includes all applicable information from the previous edition, as well as the latest in available woodworking techniques.
